Accreditation Statement:
Texas Nurses Association/Foundation Provider Unit is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
The Nurse Oncology Education Program (NOEP) is part of the TNA/F Provider Unit and funded by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.
Educational Goal:To help nurses working in primary care settings update their knowledge of genetics, specifically as related to the oncology patient.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the sequence of events that must occur for a gene to code for the production of a protein.
- Describe how genetic mutations lead to the development of cancer.
- Discuss the benefits, risks, and limitations of genetic testing for inherited cancer syndromes.
- Define the role of the nurse in genetic testing.
To receive contact hours for this continuing education activity, the participant must:
- Read/listen to the content in this module carefully.
- At the end of the course content there will be an opportunity to take the course test. You must attain a passing score of at least 80% on the test to receive credit. If you do not pass the test, you will be notified of your score and given the opportunity to retake the test.
- Once you have successfully completed the course test, follow the prompts to complete the evaluation/registration form and print your certificate of successful completion.
Once successful completion has been verified, a "Certificate of Successful Completion" will be awarded for 0.92 contact hours.
